I Sold My Business Too || Foundations Revealed Under New Ownership
Plot twist... Foundations Revealed is about to become an Employee-Owned Company. It won’t be mine anymore, and I’m no longer working there. The Employees themselves will now be the owners of Harman Hay Publications Ltd.
We have been preparing this transition for about two years. I've been handing things over gradually so that the business and the community are in safe hands going forward. The team have plans for ensuring Foundations Revealed continues to provide a great community and authoritative resources for historical costumers, historybounders, and corsetmakers, and that it continues to grow and innovate for many years to come.

An inspiring message, Cathy. I wonder how few people never have that moment of decision--with or without pills. For me, it was a omentary question. I asked myself who would caare if I simply didn't stop for the train on the tracks in front of me. I didn't come up with an answer. Nor did I stop of my own volition. For some reason, my car slowed itself and stopped several feet back from the c rossing as railcars wizzed past. The point ws brought back to me more pointedly years later as I sat at a traffic light. I was hit head-on by a car going 40 mph. My roommate and I were kept from going through the windshielfr by something we could never really desxribe other than a hand hold us against the seat. Funny thing is, I wsn't thinking about that qustion the second time. I felt great and ife was good. I figured soomeone felt the need to remind me of how fast things could change and take away that enjoyment of life. The lesson was reenforced. I learned it well. Sometimes the Universe has unfinished business with us, I guess. Thank you for sharing your story. Not everyone is willing to admit having such thoughts/feelings. Maybe that's why so many don't ask for help. Keep up your ideos. They have great purpose and effet. Blessings to you always.

You & Bernadette are the main reason that I started my journey into trying to sew historical dress!! Thank you for all your hard work! & although I've changed jobs & do not have much time anymore to devote to sewing, I still enjoy watching the videos of those people who love what they do. I have to say that I was disappointed about the decision on the peacock dress, as I felt that you were finally bringing recognition to the craftspeople in India who made it (& giving employment to those who were going to help you), but I understand. Good health & blessings to you.

Okay. I watched your visit to RSN and got interested in the coat project. However, I was hesitant to subscribe to yet another historical clothing reconstruction channel. Then, you started talking about packing your mobile studio into a vintage trunk, followed shortly by the accordion folding sewing box, and finally commentary about fatherly engineering. I'm hooked. I need to see where you go with all these ideas.

Love the way you look at creativity. I was a chef for a number of years and when I was first learning I had to have a detailed recipe. Now I can look at a picture and be inspired to make it. I don’t tend to follow recipes nowadays unless I bake. I am the same with crafts now that I’ve done a lot for so long; however, if it’s something I don’t do often or new that I want to try I have to go step by step until it’s completed.

Who is going to care about the stories?" I have no heirs. I always enormously enjoy your free content but I totally understand why everything you share is not free. You're an entrepreneur who has to make a living and to pay for the wages for a lot of people to make their living as well. But even if you weren't an employer, you have spent years and years building up your professional skills and know-how to a top notch, why on earth should you just give it away for free ? I'm a copper jewellery hobbyist (not even a professional!) and I don't give stuff away for free on the very few crafts fairs per year that I attend. Why? Because I've put in hours and hours of work while learning and doing, I pay for the materials, the VAT, the shipping, the packaging... so even if it's just a hobby for me, I expect to get back at least what I've invested in making my items, and then some. So there is no reason for you to feel bad for selling your own and your team's expertise. I wish you all success!

Hi, @CathyHay. I'm 5 min into the video and I had to stop the video to comment. I apologise if this might come out as too intrusive, as it's about your voice. I can physically see in your throat muscles the effort you make and I ache with you in empathy. My voice isn't great nor "normal", but it's my voice after 15 years of speech therapy. Of course, this does NOT make me an expert in speech therapy. But I had to take those 15 years because I was born Deaf (actually, I have partial hearing, so technically I would be a hard-of-hearing). I would not have learned to speak otherwise. (But I would have acquired a language anyway, if my parents knew also sign language). Your situation, however, is extremely different: you acquired English since birth and you learned to speak simply by listening to people talking around you and by interacting with other English speakers. So you would not need 15 years to re-educate yourself to use better your vocal chords and your breath to avoid straining your voice, with the help of a licensed speech therapist or an expert in English diction (the ones used by theatral actors or opera singers, for example). But I would suggest you start seeking for this type of help as soon as humanely possible, before your vocal cords get "too used" to this kind of strain or worsen. Please. Before, you had a beautiful voice, and you used it effortlessly, even when it was in a "breathy" period. Now, my empathic sense is screaming at me to tell you "please, rest that voice, go to a speech therapist, do something!". Apologies if this comment upsets you. I promise I won't write anymore comments on your voice. You, however, should promise to yourself: go seek help for your beutiful voice.

It is really obvious that you are becoming more settled as not only is your voice getting stronger but this little error has not meant the end of the world and you still see the way forward. the lighting is good on your video, and your voice much more even than the video where your sister voiced your words. Congrats to you, Cathy Hay. "Chief Operations Officer Christina is taking over from Cathy, and she and our Editor Perin will form a two-person leadership team running the business. The UK-based employees themselves will be the owners of Harman Hay Publications Ltd from here on out." FR posted on Instagram "Cathy is moving to the US, and since FR has reached the point where it can stand on its own two feet, she wants to be able to devote more time to sewing, videos, and the Abundant Artisan." I wish you luck in your future adventures and I pray the US Immigration does Not allow you to 'move to the US" or engage in business in The US. Honestly i felt i had NOT been paying attention to my FR membership when i read FR post on Instagram two days ago, then The Penny Dropped - I have NOT been paying attention from the first day i began to Follow you; then you and Bernadette Banner, and all of your Costume friends - i stopped Following BB couple years ago when you two parted ways, because i thought She was a Fraud. Yesterday after reading FR post, I was lead to information as to WHY you and Bernadette parted ways, ergo i had the wrong Fraud. I was mistaken to continue FR membership after March 2023. I have no interest to continue to Support you or to Follow anything you do, Cathy Hay. 20Jun2024
